When to Book Your Newborn Session?
Timing is crucial when planning a newborn session, as the ideal timeframe significantly impacts the quality of the images. I would highly recommend that parents secure their spot with me during the second trimester of pregnancy. But my diary is super flexible and if baby is already here, just reach out and I can let you know my next availability.
The optimal period for scheduling the actual newborn session is within the first 5 to 14 days after birth. During this window, infants are typically sleepier and more flexible, enabling poses that lead to stunning, serene photographs. Additionally, capturing your newborn in this early life stage allows you to document those fleeting moments of their tiny features and expressions that change rapidly as they grow.
If you're concerned about floating due dates, don't worry! I offer a flexible booking policies for newborn sessions. This means that, even if your baby arrives earlier or later than expected, rescheduling is always feasible. Just keep in touch so I'm more able to accommodating any last-minute changes due to the unpredictable nature of childbirth.
Optimal Timing for Maternity Photos
When planning for maternity photos, the sooner the better! I recommend that you schedule your maternity session between 28 and 36 weeks of pregnancy. This particular window is considered the "sweet spot," striking a balance between showcasing the beautiful baby bump while still allowing the expectant mother to feel comfortable and confident posing in the studio.
My sessions allow the natural curves and the miracle of motherhood to shine through in photographs. Many women find that they feel their best during this stage of pregnancy, as they have a well-defined bump without the added discomfort that may come later.
The studio has a range of dresses for your use, please check out the gallery or Instagram for dress examples.
Family and Newborn Session Duration: What to Expect
When planning a family and newborn photography session, understanding the expected duration is essential for a seamless experience. Typically, family sessions last around one hour depending on the number and age of the participants. During this time, I aim to capture the essence of your family dynamics, from candid moments to posed group shots.
Conversely, newborn sessions require a more flexible approach and usually last between two to three hours. This extended duration is attributed primarily to the specific needs of newborns. Unlike older children or adults who are often more adaptable, newborns generally need several breaks for feeding, nappy changes, or simply soothing during the session. I am more than happy to work around these needs, as this is how we get the best gallery for you when baby is happy!
Flexibility is crucial as each newborn is unique, with varying temperaments and routines. I always encourage parents to come prepared, bringing any necessary items such as feeding supplies or comfort items. My aim is to create a beautifully calm and peaceful environment to alleviate stress and allow you to focus more on the experience rather than the clock.
Safety, Preparation, and Style for Your Session
The safety of your precious bundle is the most paramount in the session. I have completed the Apnpi safety course as well as a Daisy First Aid in newborn & babies certificate. I was also a childminder in a previous life for 2 years, so am comfortable maintaining a safe environment in the studio.
I ensure the studio is clean and hygienic environment for every session. Props and equipment are cleaned after and before each use and the hand sanitiser is frequently used through out the session.
When deciding on clothes I would opt for cohesive neutral tones as these not only photograph beautifully but also promote a timeless quality to the images. Avoid matching outfits that can look overly staged; instead, focus on coordinating colors and textures that complement one another. This approach enhances the visual storytelling of the session without overshadowing the newborn.
Finally, it is essential to approach the session with flexibility. Newborns are unpredictable, and toddlers may not always cooperate. Depending on the situation, I usually have a remedy to get the results desired...whether it's a five minute break or some bribery with stickers! In very unusual cases where baby can not be settled, I will offer a different time to allow for additional photographs if I feel it's necessary. But usually I always get the shot and a beautiful gallery to mirror your beautiful family :)
